A pearl stud is the answer to the question "what is the most elegant earring possible?" (a smooth white hemisphere). The hammered silver dome earrings are the answer to the question "what if the most elegant earring possible had the surface of a bombed-out moon?" The design logic: (1) The FORMALITY of the dome stud archetype remains (14-16mm, hemisphere, stud back, symmetrical pair — the silhouette is classic and conservative). (2) The TEXTURE subverts the archetype (cratered, irregular, organic — the surface is chaotic and unexpected). The tension between formal and chaotic, between "I know what a stud earring looks like" and "I have NEVER seen a surface like that before," is the design engine. The silver dome earrings are NOT trying to be a pearl stud alternative — they are trying to be the ANTI-pearl stud. A pearl is nature's perfection (a mollusk's immune response producing a flawless sphere). A hammered dome is human process made permanent (a craftsperson's hammer strikes producing a flawless chaos). Pearl stud = nature's order. Lunar Stud = human chaos. The rhodium layer is the final design decision: it removes the maintenance burden (no polishing) and gives the dome a cooler white-tone that reads as "platinum family" rather than "silver family." The lunar earrings are meant to feel EXPENSIVE (in materials — sterling silver, rhodium plate — and in concept — the moon, impact physics, artisan craft) but accessible (in price and in wearability — studs are the easiest earring type to wear every day without thinking about it).
